Engine pistons compress that gas and oxygen as they pump, making more potential energy available. Spark plugs ignite the mix, and it combusts, producing power. Crankshafts turn power into rotary motion. Drive shafts and transmissions use the motion to turn wheels and tires. Finally, an oil pan or sump stores motor oil for lubricating parts.
